The Application Process

Eligible participants include residents, students who are currently on a Study Abroad program, and rising Seniors who participated in Room Selection 2007 but were not able to select a space during the lottery process.

All eligible participants who wish to live on-campus for the 2008-2009 academic year should submit a Room Selection Intent Form.  The university requires all freshman and sophomore undergraduate students to live in campus housing.  As is the case on most residential campuses, on-campus housing for junior and senior students is not automatically guaranteed.  During the Spring semester, a lottery is conducted where interested junior and senior students may select housing from available rooms for the next academic year.  Housing Services (HS) also offers guidance to upperclassmen seeking off-campus residence.

For rising Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students, as on-campus housing is not guaranteed, eligibility for selecting a room will be based upon randomly generated lottery numbers.  For rising Sophomores, the priority order for selecting a room will be based upon randomly generated lottery numbers.  The order of lottery numbers is not determined by when Intent Forms are received in HS.

The Application Process

  1. Intent Forms will be available beginning December 3, 2007.  You can obtain the Intent Form in your RHO or the HS main office, 160 Cardinal Hall.
  2. Intent Forms should be completed and accompanied by the $500 prepayment to be eligible for assignment of a lottery number.  Intent Forms will only be accepted at the HS main office. Please do not submit your Intent Form to the RHO or to your RA as payments can only be tracked through the main office.
  3. The deadline to submit your Intent Form is Friday February 8, 2008.  Late Intent Forms may be considered after all other Intent Forms have been processed.

Submitting Your $500 Prepayment

The $500 prepayment is required to participate in Room Selection.  The housing prepayment is generally not refundable unless you are not required to live in housing and are unable to select a space during the Jr/Sr or Graduate lotteries.  The $500 prepayment indicates your commitment to reside in on-campus housing for the entire 2008-2009 Academic Year and will be applied toward your Fall 2008 semester housing charges.  Requests to cancel housing will be approved as described in the Residence Hall and Dining Services Agreement.  Approved requests may incur the $500 Housing Cancellation Fee.  In these cases your $500 prepayment will be applied to the Housing Cancellation Fee.

Each Intent  Form must be accompanied by the $500 housing prepayment or a receipt of the prepayment.  There are five payment options.  Should you choose to pay via CardinalPAY, you can access it by logging in to Cardinal Station.

  1. Preferred payment is by eCheck using CardinalPAY; there is no service fee for eChecks.  Please print the email confirmation to serve as your receipt and submit it with your Intent Form.
  2. A credit card (except VISA) or debit card can also be used in CardinalPAY for an additional 2.75% service fee.  Please print the email confirmation to serve as your receipt and submit it with your Intent Form.  Please note that neither Student Accounts or Housing Services can directly process credit card payments; credit card payments can only be accepted online via CardinalPAY.
  3. Cash payments can be made at the Cashier's Office in Leahy Hall.  Please submit your receipt with your Intent Form.
  4. Personal checks made out to CUA can be submitted directly to HS with the Intent Form.  Unfortunately, CUA is unable to accept starter checks; please ensure your check has a preprinted name and address.  If it does not  have a preprinted name and address you can pay via eCheck as noted above.
  5. Your Cardinal Card can be used for the prepayment.  Please ensure you have sufficient funds on your card when you submit your Intent Form. You can add funds to your Cardinal Card online.
