Options for Students Not Required to Live On Campus

Housing for Junior and Senior Students

As is the case on most residential campuses, on-campus housing for junior and senior students is not automatically guaranteed.  During the Spring semester, a lottery is conducted where interested junior and senior students may select housing from available rooms for the next academic year.  Housing Services also offers guidance to upperclass and graduate students seeking off-campus residence.

Options

Housing Services is providing the following options and resources to junior and senior students that did not secure a space on campus during the lottery:

  1. Students may request to be placed on a Non-Guaranteed Wait List and will be assigned to available vacancies as they occur during the next few months.
  2. If a junior or senior student is not able to select an assignment, and the student does not want to be added to the Non-Guaranteed Wait List, the student may request the prepayment be returned. If the student has a balance, the prepayment will be applied to the student account. If the student does not have a balance, the prepayment will be returned via Student Accounts. Refunds are generally posted within 7-10 business days.  Students may request a refund of their prepayment in person at Housing Services or by sending an email request to cua-housing@cua.edu.
  3. The Off-Campus Housing Fair will be held on April 7th to provide students with an opportunity to preview local off campus apartment communities and to gather information on the local off-campus housing market.
  4. The online Off-Campus Housing Resources webpage available on the Housing Services Web site provides listings of off-campus properties and links to local information including apartment searches, renter’s insurance, tenant’s rights, being a good neighbor, etc.  From the online Off-Campus Housing Resource Center students can search listings, see the location depicted on a Google map, and access the property basics, distance, and travel time to CUA. By selecting a specific listing a student will receive detailed information regarding the property, as well as access to landlord information, directions to campus, and nearby metro rail and bus stops.
  5. The Off-Campus Housing Resource Center in Housing Services offers pamphlets and brochures on local apartment complexes, apartment guides, housing resources, and maps as well a computer station to search online listings.
