Welcome to the Housing Services (HS) Room Selection Website for 2008.  Room Selection is the process for current CUA residents to apply for an on-campus assignment for the 2008-2009 academic year.  The information provided on the following pages will help to clarify the process and provide answers to some frequently asked questions.  Resources and information available below include the Six Steps of the Process, Publicity, Dates, Forms, and Rates, Lottery Resources (inlcuding floor plans and space availability), Special Selection Sessions, Additional Housing Options for Students (including waitlist information), Update on Junior/Senior Selection and an Update on Sophomore Selection.

The university requires all freshman and sophomore undergraduate students to live in campus housing.  As is the case on most residential campuses, on-campus housing for junior and senior students is not automatically guaranteed.  During the Spring semester, a lottery is conducted where interested junior and senior students may select housing from available rooms for the next academic year.  HS also offers guidance to upperclassmen and graduate students seeking off-campus residence.

As you prepare your housing options for the selection process, please keep in mind the spaces that will be available within your lottery. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to select his/her first preference. In addition, due to the many fluid variables within the Selection Process, including student roommate and room type preference, HS is unable to predict your chances for obtaining a particular type of space. HS recommends that you or your group have at least five housing options. This will be especially important for Juniors and Seniors. In addition, if your preferred spaces are within suites or apartments, you should pre-determine who will live in each bedroom in order to make your selection process go more smoothly.

The SixSteps of the Room Selection Process

Complete a Room Selection Intent Form available in HS, located in 160 Cardinal Hall, or in your RHO.  Forms will be available by December 3, 2007.

  1. Submit your Intent Form and $500 Prepayment to HS by February 8, 2008.  In addition submit a Specialty Housing application if you are interested in the Upperclass Residential College or Honors Housing programs and a Housing Accommodation Request Form if you are requesting a housing accommodation.
  2. Ensure your financial committments to the University are in good standing.
  3. Log into MyHousing beginning February 21, 2008 to obtain your lottery number and selection time.

  4. Accept the Residence Hall and Dining Services Agreement and select your roommates on MyHousing prior to your selection time.
  5. Participate in the appropriate selection session to select your assignment.

Additional information will be added as it is available.  For more information on these specific topics, please click on the links below.  If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Junior/Senior Selection Update

Of the 607 upperclass students that submitted materials to be included in the Room Selection Process, over 480 rising juniors and seniors selected an assignment for next year through their room selection process that ended on March 12, 2008.  Approximately 20 students withdrew from the process after accepting residential student staff positions for next year.  The remaining 106 students who applied for campus housing are eligible for placement on the non-guaranteed wait list

The majority of the students who did not get an assignment had the opportunity to select a space, but passed on the opportunity given that the type of room or hall they wanted was no longer available. As indicated on the Space Availability webpage, in actuality only 29 students never had an opportunity to select a space because all rooms were taken by the time that their lottery number was activated.

The proportion of allocated male (36%) and female (64%) junior and senior spaces was based on the percentage of each gender applying for housing.  Over 83% of rising juniors and seniors who applied for campus housing were accommodated.  Last year, we were able to accommodate 72%.

Sophomore Selection Update

Over 732 rising sophomores selected an assignment for next year through their room selection process that ended March 28, 2008. The remaining 24 rising sophomores who applied for campus housing had the opportunity to select a space, but passed on the opportunity given that the type of room or hall they wanted was no longer available. These students will be placed on the guaranteed wait list and assigned to the remaining available spaces.

Housing Services and the Dean of Students are actively working with the current freshmen who did not apply for housing for next academic year.  Should these students choose to return to CUA in the fall, they will be placed on the guaranteed wait list and assigned spaces as they become available.
