Appliances & Furnishings

Refrigerator and Microwave Rental (Collegiate Concepts, Inc.)

Beginning this year we are excited to offer you a new refrigerator and microwave rental program. The MicroFridge unit consists of a microwave oven and a refrigerator with a separate freezer, all in one integrated unit. The MicroFridge has patented circuitry, which prevents blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers while reducing energy consumption. It works off one electrical cord, meets the university's electrical and safety requirements, and is Energy Star rated. Since it includes a separate true zero-degree freezer, the freezer can store frozen foods including ice cream for extended periods. The MicroFridge will be delivered to your room before the residence halls open on August 27 and collected from your room after May finals. CCI guarantees to have a brand new MicroFridge for you if your order is received by Saturday, August 1. Visit the Web site for more information or to place your order.

Program Update: CCI was able to continue to process requests until mid-August; due to high demand all available inventory has been reserved for the upcoming academic year. To insure your participation in this service next year, please plan on ordering early. Thank you for your interest!

Phone Usage

ResNet is the group within the Center for Planning and Information Technology (CPIT) dedicated to providing high speed network, satellite television and telephone services to residents. Additional information on these services is available on the ResNet Web site.

All residents are provided with an active phone line in their room upon arrival with on-campus and local access. New students are charged a $50 one-time telephone initiation fee. While supplying a telephone is the resident's responsibility, residents are highly encouraged to connect a phone to this line for several reasons. The primary reason is for the safety and security of our community. Should the university experience an event that could disrupt cell phone service, our residents should have access to a land line for communication. Although safety and security is our primary reason, land line phones also offer a level of convenience that differs from cell phones. The land lines in the residence halls are connected to the university phone system and provide access to services and offices on campus by simply dialing the four digit campus extension. Guests and visitors may use the call boxes at the entrance to the residence halls to call their host in order to be escorted into the building. In the interiors of a few buildings, cell phone service may not be as reliable as a student may want while land lines provide reliable access. Finally, campus extensions allow CUA staff and officials to contact residents without incurring long distance charges associated with personal cell phones.

Several features are pre-installed on each residential phone line at no additional cost. These features may be removed from a student's phone line upon request. Standard features include call waiting, transfer calling, conference calling, call forwarding, auto call back and speed dialing. Additional features including voice mail, caller ID, repeat call, return call and collect call access are available at an additional charge, which will be billed to the student's account. A Telephone Features Sign-up Form, available on the ResNet Web site, should be completed to add features to your telephone service.

PAETEC — Long Distance Calling

The university-approved vendor, PAETEC, is the only direct-dial long distance company available from campus phone lines. Information regarding PAETEC is available on their Web site. To use another carrier, students must dial that carrier's toll free or local access number and use a calling card, travel card, prepaid card or charge the call to another source, such as a collect call or to a major credit card.
