Leaving CUA for Education Abroad

Canceling Your On-Campus Housing for Spring

To properly cancel your on-campus housing for the Spring semester, you should complete an Intent to Study Abroad. These forms are available on the Housing Services (HS) Web site as well as in our office. The deadline to submit your Intent to Study Abroad to HS is November 15th.

If your form is received on or before the deadline:

  • Your Spring housing assignment will be cancelled.
  • You will not be charged the $500 Housing Cancellation Fee.

If your form is received after the deadline:

  • Your Spring housing assignment will be cancelled.
  • You may be charged the $500 Housing Cancellation Fee.

Canceling Your On-Campus Housing for Fall

If you know you will be studying abroad in the Fall semester you should not participate in the Room Selection process to select a Fall assignment. However, if your Fall study abroad plans are undecided, you may decide to participate in Room Selection. If you have a Fall housing assignment and later decide to study abroad, you should complete an Intent to Study Abroad to cancel your Fall housing. There is a $500 Housing Cancellation Fee for cancelling your Fall assignment. The cancellation forms are available on the HS Web site as well as in our office.

If your form is received before you are assigned a space:

  • Your lottery number will be removed from the Room Selection process and you will not be eligible to select a space.
  • You will not be charged the $500 Housing Cancellation Fee.

If your form is received after you are assigned a space:

  • Your Fall housing assignment will be cancelled.
  • You may be charged the $500 Housing Cancellation Fee.

Returning to CUA

Applying for Housing for the Spring Semester

If you would like to return to on-campus housing for the Spring semester, you should submit a Residence Hall and Dining Services Application along with a $500 room prepayment. The Residence Hall and Dining Services Application is available on the HS Web site as well as in our office; the completed and signed form can be mailed, faxed, or emailed as a scanned copy to HS. The priority deadline for Spring semester applications is November 15th.

Applying for Housing for the Fall Semester

The Room Selection process for Fall will take place while you are abroad; however, since Room Selection is an online process you are able to participate using any computer with internet access.

  1. Before leaving CUA you should submit a Room Selection Intent Form and $500 prepayment to HS indicating you want to live on-campus for the next academic year. In addition submit a Specialty Housing Application if you are interested in Residential College or Honors Housing and a Housing Accommodation Request if you are requesting a housing accommodation due to a disability. These forms are available before December finals begin and are due in early February (check the Room Selection webpage for specific dates).
  2. You will be able to access MyHousing online through Cardinal Station and can select your roommate(s), room, and dining plan according to your assigned lottery number and time.
  3. Ensure your financial commitments to the University are in good standing.
  4. After lottery numbers have been generated, log into MyHousing to obtain your lottery number and selection time.
  5. Accept the Residence Hall and Dining Services Agreement and select your roommate(s) on MyHousing prior to your selection time.
  6. Participate in the appropriate selection session to select your assignment.
